Do the math before you call
How many yards do you actually need?
Measure the area you want to cover, pick a depth, and this will tell you the cubic yards. Most new lawns want 4 to 6 inches of topsoil. Topdressing an existing lawn takes about half an inch.
Here is what most calculators get wrong: topsoil comes off the truck loose and fluffed, then settles about 20% once it is spread, watered, and rained on. Order the bare math and your finished grade comes up short. This calculator builds the settlement in, so the number it gives you is what to actually order.
One cubic yard covers roughly 100 square feet at 3 inches deep, and weighs about a ton, so please point us at solid ground when we deliver.
Loose topsoil settles roughly 20% after spreading, watering, and rain. The order number above already accounts for it. Compacting mechanically or seeding the same season? Round up another half yard.

How much topsoil do I need for a new lawn?
Most new lawns want 4 to 6 inches of finished topsoil. One cubic yard covers about 100 square feet at 3 inches deep. What is screened topsoil?
Screened topsoil is soil that has been run through a mechanical screener to remove rocks, roots, clumps, and debris. The result is a consistent, workable soil that spreads easily and is ready for seeding or planting, unlike unscreened soil straight out of the ground.
What towns do you deliver topsoil to?
Standard delivery covers Ontario, Webster, Walworth, Penfield, Macedon, Williamson, Sodus, Fairport, Marion, Palmyra, Victor, Farmington, and Canandaigua. Outside those towns, call anyway. If a truck is headed your direction we can usually make it work.
When should I have topsoil delivered?
Spring and early fall are the best windows for seeding a new lawn in Western New York, but we deliver whenever the ground and weather cooperate. Order a few days ahead in peak season, since spring trucks fill up fast.
